Monthly Theme-
Reading-
- review of all previous letters
-focus will be on reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding)
-color words, number words, and rhyming words
-finish up our weekly spelling lists
-initial and final sounds
-high frequency words such as the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does, etc.
-recognition and naming of end punctuation
-add drawings or other visual displays to provide additional detail
-to determine the sequence of scenes using terminology such as "first", "next", and "then" when orally describing order
-reading comprehension skills such as recalling details, comparing stories, bringing their own experiences to the text
Math:
-addition of numbers up to 10
-subtraction of numbers up to 10
-continuing to group by 10's
-a continuation of reviewing previously learned concepts (grouping 10's, counting, time, money)
Writing/Fine Motor Skills
-writing dictated words
-copying sentences from the board
Social Studies
-With May's theme of fairy tales we will be focusing on the life skills and lessons they can teach us for example, stranger danger with Little Red Riding Hood; being a good neighbor with The Three Little Pigs; self esteem with Cinderella, etc.
Science:
-our monthly theme of oceans in June
